Constellation Software Inc. Experiences Data Breach Following Cyberattack

On May 12, 2023, Constellation Software Inc. filed a Notice of Data Breach with the Vermont Attorney General’s office after learning that an unauthorized party accessed confidential consumer information after gaining access to portions of the company’s computer network. While the type of data that was leaked has not yet been publicly disclosed by the company, Constellation Software has sent detailed data breach notification letters to all individuals who were impacted by the recent data security incident.

What We Know So Far About the Constellation Software Breach

News of the Constellation Software data breach is still fresh; however, what we know at this point comes from the company’s filing with the Vermont Attorney General. According to this source, Constellation Software recently learned that an unauthorized party may have gained access to the company’s IT network. In response to this news, Constellation secured its systems and engaged the assistance of a third-party data security firm to investigate the incident.

The Constellation investigation confirmed that there was unauthorized activity within the company’s computer system between February 27, 2023 and April 3, 2023. Additionally, the unauthorized party was able to remove certain files containing confidential consumer information from the Constellation network.

Upon discovering that sensitive consumer data was made available to an unauthorized party, Constellation Software began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which consumers were impacted. Constellation completed this process on May 2, 2023.

On May 12, 2023, Constellation Software sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident. In these Notice of Data Breach letters, Constellation Software details what information belonging to the recipient was leaked.
