We recently reported that, in view of the ongoing COVID-19 disruption, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) has further extended patent, trademark, and industrial design deadlines until Monday August 24, 2020, and that this would be the final extension.

However, due to interruptions in CIPO’s online and fax services resulting from scheduled maintenance taking place this weekend, CIPO has decided to extend deadlines one more time.

Most patent, trademark, and industrial design deadlines are now extended until Monday August 31, 2020.

CIPO has indicated that this will be the final extension of deadlines, so plan to take action by August 31, 2020, and do not expect deadlines to be extended further as a consequence of COVID-19.

Further details may be found on the CIPO website here.

Smart & Biggar will continue to meet original CIPO deadlines upon receipt of timely instructions from our clients.
