Welcome to the July edition of the Alston & Bird CPSC Recall Snapshot.

Last month, the CPSC released its 2016 Annual Report. The Annual Report was divided among five key strategies: (1) hazard identification and monitoring; (2) safety standards; (3) compliance and enforcement; (4) public outreach; and (5) intergovernmental coordination. Of note, the CPSC in 2016 approved four final rules governing garage door openers, architectural glazing materials, voluntary standards participation, and burden reduction component part testing, as well as two safety standards for children’s products, one on carriages and strollers and the other on hook-on chairs. The CPSC also published a whopping 10 proposed rules in 2016. The CPSC highlighted its research “to identify hazardous products and design effective strategies to reduce product hazards,” which included research on ATVs, carbon monoxide fatalities, chemical toxicity assessments, fireworks, and nanotechnology. Finally, the CPSC provided summaries for the 10 federal court cases it participated in last year.
