On July 11, 2023, BleepingComputer reported that Deutsche Bank AG confirmed that one of the company’s service providers experienced a data breach affecting the personal information of some Deutsche Bank account holders. However, Deutsche Bank is still in the process of investigating the incident and does not yet know what data types were affected. Once the investigation is complete, Deutsche Bank or its service provider will begin sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

If you received a data breach notification from Deutsche Bank AG or one of Deutsche Bank’s vendors, it is essential you understand what is at risk and what you can do about it. As discussed below, Deutsche Bank’s description of the incident suggests that the vendor breach was related to the MOVEit vulnerability, which has been responsible for dozens of other data breaches among the world’s largest companies. Regardless, incidents like these can open you up to an increased risk of identity theft and other frauds. A data breach lawyer can help you learn more about how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft as well as discuss your legal options following the Deutsche Bank vendor data breach. What Caused the Data Breach Affecting Deutsche Bank Customers?

The Deutsche Bank data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future as the companies involved wrap up their investigations. However, BleepingComputer’s report on the breach provides some valuable insight. According to this source, Deutsche Bank recently confirmed that a data breach at one of the company’s service providers exposed its customers' data.

At this point, Deutsche Bank has not disclosed the name of the service provider or what led to the breach. However, based on Deutsche Bank’s description of the event as one that affected “more than 100 companies in more than 40 countries” suggests it may be related to the MOVEit vulnerability first announced on May 31, 2023, by Progress Software, the creator of MOVEit.

Deutsche Bank notes that the incident did not affect any of its computer systems and that any leaked information was stored on the service provider’s MOVEit server.

Deutsche Bank also confirmed that it has sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of which information of theirs was compromised.
