ESRD ETC among value-based care models being ended early by CMS -

This decision to end the ESRD ETC payment model and several others on Dec. 31 aligns with CMS’ goal to focus on models that demonstrate potential for expansion. The ESRD Treatment Choices model, designed to encourage at-home dialysis and kidney transplants, hasn’t shown significant improvements in health outcomes or reductions in Medicare spending, according to HHS Director, Robert Kennedy. CMS estimates ending the payment models will save taxpayers nearly $750 million. The agency will continue to evaluate its remaining models, making adjustments as necessary to enhance care quality and cost-effectiveness.
