The D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue announced on March 23, 2020 that, in step with the federal deadline extensions announced by the IRS on March 20, 2020, the deadline for taxpayers to file and pay their 2019 individual, partnership, fiduciary, and franchise tax returns is extended to July 15, 2020 (See news release here).

Additionally, D.C. Council passed a law allowing the waiver of penalties and interest for failure to timely pay sales and use tax for periods ending on February 29, 2020 or March 31, 2020, provided that all taxes for such periods are paid in full on or before July 20, 2020. The waiver applies to all monthly and quarterly sales tax returns except for hotels and motels that were granted a deferral of property tax under separate legislation.

We will continue to monitor D.C. state tax developments.
