DOJ and State AGs Spotlight Live Nation/Ticketmaster’s Alleged Monopolization of Live Events

  • A bipartisan coalition of 30 AGs and the U.S. DOJ filed a lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. and its subsidiary Ticketmaster L.L.C. (collectively, “Live Nation”), for alleged monopolization of the live events industry in violation of the Sherman Act and certain states’ antitrust and consumer protection laws.
  • The complaint alleges that Live Nation maintains monopolies and market power across the live concert ecosystem—from promotions to venues and ticket sales—engages in unlawful exclusive dealing and tying arrangements in those markets, and restricts venues not owned by Live Nation from working with other ticketing vendors, among other things.
  • The AGs and the DOJ seek declaratory and injunctive relief, divestiture of Ticketmaster, termination of certain ticketing agreements, and costs and fees, among other relief.
