On November 8, 2022, Eagle Bank reported a data breach with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office after an unauthorized party was able to gain access to sensitive consumer information that had been entrusted to the bank. According to Eagle Bank, the breach resulted in the names, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers and driver’s license numbers of certain bank customers being compromised. Recently, Eagle Bank sent out data breach letters to all affected parties, informing them of the incident and what they can do to protect themselves from identity theft and other frauds.

If you are a customer of Eagle Bank and recently received a data breach letter from the company, it means that your Social Security numbers and bank account numbers were likely among those leaked in the recent cyberattack. As we’ve discussed in prior posts, this greatly increases the chances of falling victim to identity theft and other frauds. Thus, it is important that you take the incident seriously and do everything possible to reduce these risks. Further, if evidence emerges that Eagle Bank was negligent in storing your information, you may be able to pursue a data breach lawsuit against the bank.

What We Know About the Eagle Bank Data Breach

The available information regarding the Eagle Bank breach comes from the company’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts. However, the information contained in the Massachusetts AG’s “Data Breach Notification Report” is limited. Thus, all we know about the breach at this point in time is that it stemmed from an incident involving the bank’s computer network (rather than a third-party’s) and that the following data types were compromised:

Names,

Social Security numbers,

Financial account numbers, and

Driver’s license number.

On November 8, 2022, Eagle Bank sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident. While the bank has not yet confirmed the total number of people affected by the Eagle Bank breach, the Massachusetts Attorney General reports there were 476 in that state alone.

Established in 1889, Eagle Bank is an independent, community bank based in Peabody, Massachusetts. The bank has 5 locations throughout Massachusetts as well as a specialized loan center and offers the traditional services of a financial institution, including personal, business and mortgage services.
