We wanted to remind you that the federal government (U.S. Customs and Immigration Service) has promulgated a new Form I-9 – the form used by employers to verify employment eligibility of new employees by reviewing specified documents provided by such employees – and employers were to begin using this new form on or before January 22, 2017.  According to the USCIS, employers should continue to follow existing storage and retention rules for all of their previously completed Forms I-9.

The new form (marked 11/14/2016) and accompanying instructions may be found at https://www.uscis.gov/i-9.  The new form may be completed by computer, but is nevertheless required to be signed and stored in paper form.
