Last week, a jury awarded sports journalist, T.J. Simers a
$7.1 million verdict in his age and disability discrimination suit against the
Los Angeles Times. Mr. Simers alleged that he was subjected to discrimination following a “mini-stroke” at age 63. Two months after the stroke, Mr. Simers received his first negative performance review, and claims that less than six months later
he was forced out of his job. In a statement to a local news network, Mr. Simers said, “I got sick and I got old, which is a terrible combination in this day of newspapers.” The
Los Angeles Times plans to appeal the verdict.
