As the school year comes to an end, parents are planning their vacations. Now is the time to check your Custody Orders and make sure that you are following all the terms and conditions. Most Custody Agreements have provisions regarding notification regarding dates of vacation, travel information including location of vacation and providing contact information while on vacation.
All of this information should be provided in advance to the other parent to avoid any last-minute problems. Additionally, if flying with a minor child many airlines also have their own rules regarding a parent flying with a child including written consent by the non-travelling parent. Parents who are flying with children should contact the airlines and confirm all documents are signed in advance of travel to avoid any cancellations or delays.
If a child has a summer sport or school commitment, all vacation dates should be scheduled so as not to have the child miss an important or required school related event while travelling. Finally, if a passport is needed, make arrangements in advance to make sure you have access to the child’s passport, and it is current.
