EU AI Office Seeks Stakeholder Engagement in Drafting AI Act Implementing Rules

Latham & Watkins LLP

Stakeholders have until September 10, 2024, to provide input on transparency, copyright, and risk taxonomy, among other issues.

The EU AI Office has just published a consultation on the topics that should be covered by the first general-purpose AI (GPAI) Code of Practice and a call for interest to participate in drafting the Code.

GPAI model providers, downstream providers, and other industry or stakeholder organisations (NGOs, rightsholders organisations, and any interested independent experts) as well as public authorities are invited to provide their input on which rules should be drawn up on issues such as transparency; copyright; risk taxonomy, assessment, and mitigation; and reviewing and monitoring the Codes of Practice for GPAI models. The consultation will also inform the AI Office’s other implementation of the Act, such as the much-awaited template for the summary of the content used for training the GPAI models.

September 10, 2024, is the deadline for contributions, which will be made public on the European Commission (EC) website.

The EC has also devised a drafting process for the GPAI Code of Practice that is expected to take place between September 2024 and April 2025 and is open to participation (see graph below).
