California's sweeping new privacy law - the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) - went into effect on January 1, 2020. For companies subject to the CCPA, the law ushered in numerous obligations regarding personal information. Moreover, because the law contains ambiguities and the Attorney General’s implementing regulations remain in draft form, compliance with the CCPA is fraught with uncertainty. And the costs of an error are significant: the CCPA allows the victim of a data breach to sue based on statutory damages alone, and the Attorney General will begin enforcing the full suite of CCPA obligations on July 1.

The Carlton Fields CCPA Forum will help you understand the current landscape of the CCPA, including the status of the regulations, anticipated litigation and enforcement priorities, and potential changes to the law. The Forum also will provide attendees with practical advice and lessons learned from the first few months following the law’s effective date.

Join in-house counsel, chief privacy and information officers, and C-suite leaders for in-depth panel discussions featuring Carlton Fields’ Cybersecurity and Privacy attorneys.

CLE credit will be provided, and the program will conclude with a networking reception.

Program Highlights

Panel: Compliance Is More Than Updating Your Privacy Policy
Effective compliance requires processes, infrastructure, and audit trails to back up your Policy and its promises. How can this internal work be scaled for small and medium-sized companies? Panelists also will discuss leveraging work for GDPR and other privacy regimes.

Panel: Enforcement and Litigation Risk
Panelists will discuss the Attorney General's priorities and the current status of the regulations, followed by a deep dive into the reasonable security provision and private right of action.
