What Caused the Feldstein & Stewart Data Breach?

The Feldstein & Stewart data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, F&S’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on March 25, 2024, F&S learned that it had recently experienced a data security incident. In response, F&S secured its network and then began working with third-party data security experts to investigate the incident.

Through this investigation, F&S confirmed that an unauthorized party had been able to access and acquire files from its network, including those containing confidential information belonging to certain individuals.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Feldstein & Stewart reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. F&S completed this process on September 16, 2024. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, driver’s license number and state identification number.

On September 25, 2024, Feldstein & Stewart sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
