The Federal Highway Administation (“FHWA”) announced in an August 27th news release it was awarded $521 million in grants for electric charging and fueling infrastructure expansion.
The grants are funded by the Infrastructre Investments and Jobs Act of 2021.
FHWA states that the grants will support:
- 10,000 chargers.
- Across 29 states.
- In 8 Tribal Nations.
- District of Columbia.
The grants will include what are described as 10 fast-charging hubs along major highway corridors.
Ozark Regional Transit (Northwest Arkansas) has been awarded $14.9 million to construct electric vehicle charging infrastructure at up to 17 sites within the cities of Bentonville, Fayetteville, Rogers, and Springdale. This expansion is projected to increase the number of publicly available charging ports in Northwest Arkansas by 58%.
FHWA also notes:
…The chargers will be installed in locations served by Ozark Regional Transit on-demand transit services, which will use these facilities to charge between trips, in addition to being available to the general public for charging. The project sites will be near areas of recreation, shopping, and employment and have significant existing transit ridership.
