On July 27, 2023, Fidelity Life Association filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Texas after discovering that confidential consumer information that had been entrusted to the company was subject to unauthorized access. In this notice, Fidelity Life explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, addresses and Social Security numbers. Upon completing its investigation, Fidelity Life began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

If you received a data breach notification from Fidelity Life Association, it is essential you understand what is at risk and what you can do about it. While any data breach is concerning, those involving your Social Security number present an especially high risk. Hackers need little more than your name, SSN and publicly available information to steal your identity and commit other frauds against you. A data breach lawyer can help you learn more about how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft as well as discuss your legal options following the Fidelity Life data breach. What Caused the Fidelity Life Breach?

The Fidelity Life data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. And while Fidelity Life’s filing with the Attorney General of Texas provides some information on what led up to the breach, it doesn’t go into all that much detail.

According to this source, Fidelity Life recently learned that sensitive information provided to the company by consumers may have been compromised as a result of a data security incident. In response, Fidelity Life conducted an investigation to learn more about the nature and scope of the breach.

The Fidelity Life investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access confidential information that had been provided to the company by consumers. However, it is unclear whether the breach occurred within Fidelity Life’s computer system or whether it involved a third-party vendor.

Regardless, after learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Fidelity Life reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address and Social Security number.

On July 27, 2023, Fidelity Life sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of which information of theirs was compromised.
