On April 4, 2025, Fidelity Life Association (“Fidelity Life”) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Texas after discovering that an unauthorized party was able to access information that had been provided to the company. In this notice, Fidelity Life explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, and medical information. Upon completing its investigation, Fidelity Life began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What Caused the Fidelity Life Data Breach?

The Fidelity Life data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, at this early point, Fidelity Life does not appear to have posted a website notice or issued a press release discussing the incident, and the company’s filing with the Attorney General of Texas provides only limited information on what led up to the breach.

Based on the available information, we do know that Fidelity Life recently completed an investigation into a potential data security incident. Ultimately, this investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access confidential information in the company’s possession. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Fidelity Life’s IT systems were compromised; it’s also possible that Fidelity Life is providing notice of a third-party data breach that occurred at one of the company’s vendors or partners.

Either way, after learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Fidelity Life reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Fidelity Life recently completed this process, and while the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address, driver’s license number, and medical information.

On April 4, 2025, Fidelity Life notified the Texas Attorney General of the incident, reporting that an estimated 786 Texans were affected. Typically, this is when companies also send out personalized data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the incident; however, Fidelity Life could be following a different timeline. Regardless, once sent, these personalized letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
