The Conservative Party concluded the Parliamentary phase of its leadership selection.  The final two candidates are former London Mayor and former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and current Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.  The next phase starts this Saturday when ballots are posted to the 160,000 members of the Conservative Party, which will conclude the week of 22 July 2019.

Mr Johnson is still seen as the front-runner and the person most likely to become leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister at the end of July.  There will be a number of hustings as well as a further televised debate, which in could change the outcome.

Each of the candidates have different views on how to achieve Brexit, with Mr Johnson very bullish on a no-deal Brexit if required.  Mr Hunt believes that concessions can be agreed with the EU27 to get a deal over the line.

As this process moves forward, the probability of no Brexit or a second referendum are diminishing with the possibility of a no-deal Brexit back on the rise, as we have been warning of for some time.

We will continue to monitor developments as they happen.
