The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a benefit program provided by the federal government through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), geared toward the care of frail, elderly individuals. The program model centers around the belief that it is best to deliver and provide seniors’ chronic care needs within their respective communities, as opposed to within a nursing home. The model was initially developed in the 1970s, beginning with one adult day-care center in San Francisco. Today, there are 114 PACE programs operating in 32 states.
