What Caused the Forum Communications Data Breach?

The Forum Communications data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Forum Communications’ filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, Forum Communications recently learned that an unauthorized party had gained access to its computer network. In response, Forum Communications launched an investigation to learn more about the incident and what, if any, consumer information may have been compromised.

Through this investigation, Forum Communications learned that the unauthorized party had access to certain files on its computer network containing confidential consumer information between January 14, 2025 and January 31, 2025.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Forum Communications reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the data breach letter on the Maine Attorney General’s website doesn’t mention what information was compromised, on March 19, 2025, Forum Communications sent out personalized data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These personalized letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
