What Caused the Futurity First Insurance Data Breach?

The Futurity First Insurance data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Futurity First’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, FFIG recently completed an investigation after detecting suspicious activity on its computer network. This investigation revealed that an unauthorized party was able to access three employee and six independent agent email accounts. While FFIG couldn’t determine what information the unauthorized party actually viewed in the account, the company went through all affected email accounts to determine what the unauthorized party had access to.

Through this investigation, FFIG confirmed that the unauthorized party was able to access confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Futurity First Insurance reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. FFIG completed this process on May 23, 2024. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number and driver’s license number.

On July 24, 2024, Futurity First Insurance sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
