USCIS has announced that – between April 1 and April 5 – it received 201,011 FY2020 H-1B petitions, exhausting the FY2020 H-1B “regular cap” quota, as well as the 20,000 H-1Bs available under the advanced degree exemption. USCIS indicated that it administered a computer-generated random selection process – the H-1B lottery – to select enough H-1B petitions to meet the “regular cap” on April 5, and the advanced degree exemption on April 10. USCIS will reject and return all petitions not selected in the lottery.
