What Caused the GoodTemps Data Breach?

The GoodTemps data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, GoodTemps’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, GoodTemps recently detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, GoodTemps secured its system and then launched an investigation to learn more about the incident and whether any consumer data may have been leaked as a result.

Ultimately, the GoodTemps investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor was able to access portions of its computer network, including files containing confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, GoodTemps reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted.

More recently, GoodTemps sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. Unfortunately, the publicly available GoodTemps data breach letter does not mention the specific data types that were compromised as a result of the cyberattack. However, the personalized data breach letters that GoodTemps recently sent out should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
