On April 21, 2021, the Alberta Government introduced and passed Bill 71: Employment Standards (COVID-19 Vaccination Leave) Amendment Act, 2021, which amends the Alberta Employment Standards Code to provide all Alberta employees with access to three hours of paid leave to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

The leave is available to all full and part-time employees regardless of their length of service. Employees must provide employers with as much notice as is reasonable and practicable in the circumstances before taking the leave.

These changes are similar to those announced in British Columbia on April 19, 2021. A bulletin outlining the changes in British Columbia can be found here.
