Governor Brown Signs Simitian Energy Law

Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed an ambitious new energy mandate that requires California’s utilities to get 33 percent of the electricity they sell from renewable sources such as wind and solar by 2020, the Mercury News reports. Brown signed the groundbreaking law at a ceremony at SunPower Corp.’s (NASDAQ: SPWRA) solar manufacturing facility in Milpitas. The signing also marked a victory for Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, who spent four years pushing for the 33 percent standard.
