Connecticut law [C.G.S. §17a-106h] requires that “persons employed by a local or regional board of education … who have contact with students” receive mandatory training on prompt identification and reporting of suspected human trafficking. The initial training was to have been completed by July 1, 2018. New employees must complete the training within six months of beginning employment. Additionally, all covered employees must take a refresher course annually. So, how does a school district comply with this requirement?
The Department of Children and Families, Human Anti-Trafficking Response Team (“DCF-HART”) has developed an “Introduction to Child Trafficking in Connecticut” curriculum to satisfy this training requirement. The training is two and a half hours long. DCF-HART has trainers available to provide the training for school employees and they do not charge a fee for providing the training. This is currently the only approved human anti-trafficking curriculum in Connecticut. Districts need to contact DCF-HART at DCFHART@ct.gov to schedule the training.
Make sure that your District complies with this important requirement.
