The amount of time it takes for a divorce to be finalized is different in everyone’s case and is driven by a variety of factors. 

One of the most important factors is whether other professionals need to be brought into the case such as custody evaluators or business appraisers. This will take more time, as they play an important role in helping to provide information necessary to either settle the case or take it to trial. 

Another major factor is whether there are issues that cannot be resolved in any way other than going to trial. If the case is resolved short of trial, it will typically take less time because the time is not impacted by the judge’s calendar. Currently, cases going to trial are often being scheduled  anywhere from 3 to 6 months from the date a trial is requested due to the number of cases currently assigned to each judge. If a case goes to trial, it may not be resolved for well over a year.
