HUD issued the final rule on Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH), which is poised to provide clear, actionable guidelines and data that will help HUD grantees achieve fair housing and equal opportunity goals. The final rule clarifies current fair housing standards and indicates HUD plans to make available data about racial and ethnic poverty statistics, community housing needs and disparities, and equal access patterns.

We will post more commentary after we have fully reviewed the 377 pages of the rule and HUD’s responses to comments received. In the meantime, see today’s Wall Street Journal, which quotes Ballard Spahr attorney and Housing Plus blogger Amy Glassman about the rule, and Ballard Spahr’s summary of the proposed AFFH rule.
