On February 1, 2024, Infosys McCamish Systems LLC (“Infosys,” or “IMS”) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine after discovering that an unauthorized party was able to access the company’s computer network. In this notice, IMS explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access certain Bank of America (“BoA”) customers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, addresses, business email addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and other account information. Evidently, the incident affected those Bank of America customers participating in a deferred compensation plan. Upon completing its investigation, IMS began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What Caused the Infosys Data Breach?

The Infosys data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, IMS’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on November 3, 2023, Infosys learned that it was impacted by a cybersecurity event in which an unauthorized party accessed portions of the company’s computer network.

In response, IMS launched an investigation with the help of third-party data security specialists. On November 24, 2023, IMS informed Bank of America that data concerning certain deferred compensation plans serviced by Bank of America may have been affected.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Infosys reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address, business email address, date of birth, Social Security number, and other account information.

On February 1, 2024, Infosys sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
