What Caused the Data Breach Affecting Clients of Wells Fargo, Continental Casualty Company, and The Nolan Financial Group?

The Infosys McCamish Systems data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, IMS’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on November 2, 2023, Infosys McCamish learned that the company was affected by a ransomware attack. That same day, IMS launched an investigation with the help of third-party cybersecurity experts. IMS also notified law enforcement.

Through its investigation, IMS confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed its network and removed certain files containing confidential consumer information between October 29, 2023 and November 2, 2023.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Infosys McCamish Systems reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. IMS completed this process on May 28, 2024. Subsequently, IMS provided notification on behalf of many of the companies that had information compromised in the IMS data breach. On October 21, 2024, IMS provided notice on behalf of three additional companies: Wells Fargo, Continental Casualty Company, and The Nolan Financial Group. Evidently, these companies subsequently requested that they be named in the IMS filing.

These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
