IRS (Temporarily?) Halts IPPIN Application Process

I have previously written about the IPPIN program that the IRS offers many taxpayers as a way to prevent tax-related identity fraud.  For a discussion of this program, please look here.

Unfortunately, the IRS has halted the application process for now.  On its website, the IRS states that the IPPIN application is unavailable until further notice as the IRS reviews the application tool and looks at strengthening its security features.  Hopefully, this will only be a temporary halt, as the IPPIN program is one of the best tools available to taxpayers to protect themselves against an identity thief filing a fraudulent return in their name.
