ITC Moving Into Oakland County

ITCs’s vegetation management efforts are now taking place in Walled Lake, representing an unprecedented amount of activity by the agency.

It seems like a weekly occurrence that I learn from property owners of new efforts being undertaken by ITC to acquire vegetation management rights. I was recently retained by owners on the Adams-Spokane line, which runs from eastern Oakland County to western Macomb County. I have been retained by owners who have been sued in both counties. I then learned that ITC has been issuing good faith offers in both Taylor and Dearborn in Wayne County. Now, I have just learned that ITC is making good faith offers in Walled Lake, in Oakland County.

ITC typically would wait for one project to wind down before issuing good faith offers in the next project.  I wrote in February about the sale of ITC for $11.3 Billion. I can only guess that ITC put some projects on hold while it dealt with that transaction. Whatever the reason, ITC is now active on what appear to be three different lines and three different counties.

For a more complete discussion of the acquisition process involving ITC, please see Owners’ Guide to Understanding and Responding to an ITC Easement RequestGenerally speaking, ITC seeks to expand vegetation management rights in the vicinity of existing transmission lines.
