Today the Senate confirmed Janet Dhillon by a 50-43 vote to become the new chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Her term will expire July 1, 2022.

Ms. Dhillon was nominated by President Trump in the summer of 2017.

Once Ms. Dhillon (R) is sworn in, the EEOC will have a quorum again. Ms. Dhillon will replace Acting Chair Victoria Lipnic (R), who will remain with the EEOC as a Commissioner. The other Commissioner is Charlotte Burrows (D), whose term will expire July 1, 2019, but can be extended until September. Even after Ms. Dhillon takes office, the Commission will still have two vacant seats.

Ms. Dhillon has a corporate law background, having been General Counsel for J.C. Penney, US Airways, and most recently Burlington Industries. She has expressed a preference for informal resolution over litigation, and seems underwhelmed with the proposal to collect EEO-1 compensation data. In other words, she sounds like she'll be all right.

President Trump nominated Sharon Fast Gustafson to be General Counsel, a position that has been vacant since David Lopez left the EEOC in December 2016. I do not know when Ms. Gustafson will be up for a confirmation vote. Soon, I hope.
