Intellectual Ventures II LLC v. JP Morgan Chase & Co., et al.

November 5, 2014

Case Number: 1:13-cv-03777-AKH

Judge Hellerstein disposed of a number of motions to seal filed by both Intellectual Ventures II LLC and JP Morgan Chase & Co. and the other defendants.  Judge Hellerstein noted that he was granting the motions because the parties had demonstrated that the redaction of certain third-party names and products was vital to the security of the defendants’ networks.  Additionally, public disclosure of plaintiff’s agreements with outside contractors could place plaintiff at a competitive disadvantage, or violate existing confidentiality agreements.  However, Judge Hellerstein refused to seal any documents that simply referenced other documents that contained confidential information, but did not contain any themselves.
