REMINDER: The deadline for compliance with Senate Bill No. 553 (“SB 553”) is approaching. This new law mandates that covered California employers must implement measures to prevent and address workplace violence. One such measure, added in Section 6401.9 to the California Labor Code, requires employers to adopt a comprehensive Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (“WVPP”) by July 1, 2024.
Cal/OSHA has published a Model WVPP. The Model WVPP is designed to assist employers in drafting their own plans. Employers are not obligated to use Cal/OSHA’s model but may adopt it as a template. The Model WVPP includes numerous questions and examples for employers to consider as they assess the risks in their workplaces and customize the template accordingly.
