Our free market economy is grounded in the principle that competition is the most effective and efficient way to protect customers and consumers. Cartels are a serious violation of this principle and can cause considerable damage: customers pay excessive prices or receive lower quality products; suppliers to a cartel may be forced to sell at prices that do not adequately reflect the value of their products.
