What Caused the Katz Nannis + Solomon Data Breach?

The Katz Nannis + Solomon data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. Unfortunately, KN+S’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides only little information on what led up to the breach, and the company has not yet issued a press release or posted a website notice discussing the incident.

What we do know is that KN+S recently experienced an incident in which an unauthorized party was able to access information that had been provided to the company. While most reported data breaches involve cyberattacks against the reporting company, it is possible that KN+S is reporting the incident on behalf of one of the company’s vendors. These are referred to as third-party data breaches.

Regardless of which company was targeted, after learning that sensitive consumer data in its possession was subject to unauthorized access, Katz Nannis + Solomon reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted.
