What Caused the Data Breach Affecting Kerber, Eck & Braeckel Clients?

The Kerber, Eck & Braeckel data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, KEB’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides some important information on what led up to the breach. KEB also posted a website notice describing the incident and the company’s response.

According to this source, on February 7, 2024, KEB’s branch office in Marion, Illinois became aware of suspicious activity on its computer network. In response, KEB launched an investigation to learn more about the incident and determine if any information in the company’s possession was compromised.

Through this investigation, KEB was able to determine that an unauthorized party gained access to its network between January 27 and February 7, 2023. During this time, the unauthorized party accessed or obtained confidential consumer information stored on the firm’s IT network.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Kerber, Eck & Braeckel reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. KEB completed this process on June 6, 2024. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, financial account information, medical information, health insurance information, and billing and claims information.

On August 12, 2024, Kerber, Eck & Braeckel sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
