What Caused the Kofile Technologies Data Breach?

The Kofile Technologies data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. But at this early point, Kofile’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides only limited information on what led up to the breach.

According to this source, Kofile recently learned that information in the company’s possession was subject to unauthorized access due to a cyberattack. In response, Kofile secured its email environment and then launched an investigation to learn more about the incident, including whether any consumer data may have been compromised.

Ultimately, Kofile’s investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access confidential consumer data that had been stored on Kofile’s computer network.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Kofile Technologies reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name and Social Security number.

On July 18, 2024, Kofile Technologies sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised. Kofile is also offering all victims of the breach 24 months of free credit monitoring services through Experian.
