The City of Delaware has appointed Topeka, Kansas native Nic Langford as its new economic development director, replacing Sean Hughes, who left the position in December to become Powell’s first economic development administrator, Columbus Business First reports. Delaware City Manager Tom Homan “said he was impressed with Langford’s range of economic development experience,” the article reports. Homan called Langford “a great addition to our team” and said, “[h]e has developed small businesses and attracted large employers while working with different levels of government.”

A press release from the City of Delaware said, “Langford will be responsible for executing Delaware’s strategic business plan, developing relationships with local, regional, national, and international businesses and assisting companies interested in relocating to Delaware or expanding here.” Langford “most recently directed economic development for the City of Suffolk, Va., while overseeing tourism and the city’s executive airport. Prior to that, Langford was Redevelopment Director for the City of Clarksville, In., where he handled multiple projects and programs and oversaw more than $150 million in new development,” according to that release. “I’m honored and excited to be here in Delaware,” Langford said, “I look forward to working with our dedicated staff and leaders in the private and public sectors to create opportunities that build on the growth and vibrancy of this city.” For more, read the full Columbus Business First article (subscription may be required) and full press release.
