What Caused the LiUNA Data Breach?

The LiUNA data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, LiUNA’s filing with the Attorney General of California provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on November 17, 2024, an unauthorized party gained access to LiUNA’s IT network and infected the organization’s network with ransomware. The following day, LiUNA was able to regain control of its network. However, during the incident, the unauthorized party had access to data stored on LiUNA’s network, including confidential information belonging to current and former LiUNA members, others represented by the Union, and employees of the union.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, LiUNA reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, membership number, telephone number, home address, email address, and work dispatch records

On March 31, 2025, LiUNA sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
