"Mandatory Online Ethics Training for New York State Lobbyists"

On September 26, 2014, the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics (JCOPE) announced that “Ethics for Lobbyists,” an online ethics training course, is now available. The training course covers ethics rules and guidance found in the Lobbying Act, the Public Officers Law, JCOPE regulations and advisory opinions, and the Election Law. The course also includes best practices for meeting various requirements.

The ethics training course is mandatory for all individuals who have been identified on a JCOPE registration statement and authorized to lobby on the state or local level during the 2011-12 and 2013-14 biennial reporting periods. Please note that this includes currently registered lobbyists as well as anyone who was registered in either of the last two biennial periods. The deadline for completing the training is December 31, 2014. Going forward, lobbyists will be required to complete the training once every three years.

Detailed instructions on enrolling in the ethics training course can be found at http://jcope.ny.gov/training/training_lobbyists.html.
