The Mississippi Commission on Environmental Quality (“MCEQ”) issued a May 11th Order addressing a proposed medical waste process facility. See Order No. 6851 18.
The Order provides that the Three Rivers Regional Solid Waste Management Authority (“Authority”) adopted on January 19th a Resolution approving a request from GreenServ Sterilization, LLC (“GreenServ”) to modify the Three Rivers Regional Solid Waste Management Plan to include a medical waste process facility.
The facility would be owned and operated by GreenServ.
The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors are stated to have also approved the request for modification of the plan on November 6, 2017. This approval is stated to have included a determination of need for the facility.
The facility is projected to accept potentially infectious medical waste to be treated and sterilized prior to disposal in a permitted solid waste disposal facility. It is further described as including a:
. . . service area approved for the facility.
The area includes within a 400 mile radius of the facility:
. . . all of the states of Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas and those parts of the states of Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas (which fall within the 400 mile radius).
