What We Know So Far About the Possible Medicalodges Breach

News of a possible Medicalodges data breach first came out in mid-April 2023, when reports began to surface that the company experienced a cybersecurity incident. Subsequently, a spokesperson for Medicalodges acknowledged that the company experienced a “cyber-incident” but failed to provide any details.

However, the Karakurt Ransomware Extortion Group has since taken credit for the attack, claiming to have obtained approximately 170 GB of highly sensitive information belonging to patients, including their Social Security numbers and protected health information.

On April 13, 2023, a Medicalodges representative explained that the company was aware of the incident and has since taken steps to secure its systems. Medicalodges also notes that it will continue to share information about the incident as it becomes available. However, as of May 8, 2023, there have been no further updates from the company.

If Medicalodges determines that confidential patient data was leaked as a result of the cybersecurity incident, the company will be required under federal law to send out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident.
