  • Missouri AG Andrew Bailey has opened an investigation into Jerico Pictures, Inc. d/b/a National Public Data, a background check data aggregator, over a data breach that has allegedly exposed personally identifiable information of more than 2.9 billion people.
  • According to the AG’s office, it is investigating allegations that the company failed to properly secure and safeguard its data, which allowed a cybercriminal group to gain access to the company’s information, extract unencrypted data, and put the database up for sale.
  • We have recently reported on other AG efforts to protect consumers’ data privacy rights, including the New Hampshire AG’s launch of a new data privacy unit, the Texas AG’s data privacy initiative, and the partnership between four AGs and the FCC on privacy and data protection issues.
