Today’s Monday Briefing is “short form” to give time to prepare for Dorsey’s annual Corporate Counsel Symposium (over 900 attendees the last time we checked) featuring a panel discussion on “Avoiding Liability in the Rapidly Changing Healthcare Industry.”

• Proposed IRS regulations save some big re-writing time by stating that all references to “husband” and “wife” in the regulations include references to same-sex married couples where the marriage is recognized in one state or territory.  (Federal Register) (Forbes)
• Wonder what kind of disguise they used? GAO investigators perform 18 undercover tests on federal and state health exchanges and find some surprises.  (GAO) (NYT)
• It might be worth considering the source (a big TPA wanting to sell wellness plans) but nonetheless this one is interesting. Aetna found significant success in a wellness program specifically targeted to individuals at risk for metabolic syndrome. (Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine) Our guess is that big data and wellness will start merging soon.
