In this notice, OHIC explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical claims information, banking information, billing information and medical treatment information. What Caused the Data Breach Affecting Mutual of Omaha Rx Customers?

The Mutual of Omaha Rx data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, OHIC’s filing with the Attorney General of Montana provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on June 22, OHIC was informed by one of the company’s vendors that the vendor had experienced a security incident that it had discovered on June 21, 2023.

In response to learning about the incident, OHIC’s vendor launched an investigation, ultimately confirming that an unauthorized party downloaded confidential information between May 30, 2023 and June 2, 2023.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Mutual of Omaha reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, date of birth, medical claims information, banking information, billing information and medical treatment information.

On August 3, 2023, Mutual of Omaha sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
