This is no premature pesce d’aprile joke. Yesterday, the Nevada Secretary of State actually issued a media advisory announcing “A Twenty-Foot-Tall Alien Invades Secretary of State’s Office.” Nevada is, after all, home to the famous government facility at “Area 51? and/or “the operating location near Groom Lake” (See Doe v. Browner, 902 F.Supp. 1240, 1248-49 (D. Nev. 1995). Do we now have official confirmation of extraterritorial visitors in the Silver State? Alas, this alien is much more prosaic. It is a Halloween prop for the Secretary’s employees and their families.

On a more serious note, Secretary of State Ross Miller also reported that his office had processed more than 500 new entity filings in the third quarter of 2011 than during the same period in 2010. All of the increase is attributable to limited liability company filings. The number of new corporate, limited partnership, limited liability partnership and business trusts filings declined. The total number of all business entity filings for the third quarter of 2011 was 14,003.
