New Municipal Condemnations

For the last several years, municipalities have been slow to engage in new projects that require the use of eminent domain due to budgetary restrictions. However, with the upturn in the economy that is resulting in new building projects and demand for municipal services as well as the natural need to expand and replace facilities, some new projects are underway.

Recently, the City of Clio has filed a number of cases seeking rights for a new sanitary sewer line. The takings include and are around the Rite Aid located on Vienna Road.

Additionally, the Beecher Metropolitan District, which is located near Flint, is suing to condemn rights to in order to install a new water main.

I believe that there is a pent up need for new road and municipal utility projects since many projects have been deferred due to budgetary issues. Perhaps these two projects are the forerunners of that trend.
