Starting June 20, 2023, a new law passed in New York State requires all businesses selling gift cards to warn customers of potential gift card fraud. The warning must be placed in writing at or near the point of sale or where the gift card or gift certificate is displayed.

The New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection has published sample notices and guidelines that businesses should follow in case they wish to create their own customized warning. More specifically, businesses must: (i) caution the purchaser about pre-paid card scams; and (ii) instruct the purchaser on which action to take if they suspect they might be a potential victim of a scam.

A partire dal 20 giugno 2023, una nuova legge dello Stato di New York richiede a tutte le aziende che vendono gift card di esporre un’avvertenza ai consumatori in merito a potenziali truffe relative a gift card.Tale avvertenza deve essere fornita in corrispondenza o in prossimità di dove vengono esposte o vendute gift card.

La Division of Consumer Protectiondel Department of State ha pubblicato modelli di avvertenze e linee guida che le aziende devono seguire nel caso in cui desiderino creare una propria avvertenza personalizzata.
